this drug used for? - The generic
solution Betaxolol Hydrochloride (Hcl) is used in the treatment
of high blood pressure. In addition to its effect on the heart, this drug
reduces the pressure within the eye (intraocular pressure). This effect is
thought to be caused by reducing the production of the liquid (which is
called the aqueous humor) within the eye.
Betaxolol Hcl works by slowing down the heart and reducing blood
pressure, which helps it pump more efficiently and reduces the workload
on the heart. It may also interfere with the action of adrenalin and
other similar chemicals in the brain preventing migraine headaches.
As an ophthalmic solution the medicine reduces intraocular pressure and the
risk of damage to the optic nerve and loss of vision in patients with
elevated intraocular pressure due to
glaucoma.

What are the Common Side Effects of
this Drug Medication? - They include:constipation, depression,
diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, hallucinations,
lightheadedness, nausea, sleeplessness, stomach cramps, tiredness,
vision problems, vivid dreams, vomiting, and weakness.
Drug Interaction Concerns - If you are
taking any of the following medications, please discuss with your doctor.
Including: (1) Antiarrhythmics (such as amiodarone, flecainide,
quinidine), antipsychotics (chlorpromazine and
haloperidol),
bupivacaine, calcium channel blockers (including mibefradil, nifedipine,
verapamil), catecholamine-depleting agents (eg reserpine), cimetidine,
ketanserin, mefloquine, or thioamines (eg, tapazole) because potentially
life-threatening heart-related side effects may occur, including very slow
heart rate; abnormal heartbeat; lightheadedness, especially upon standing;
difficulty breathing, especially when lying down; loss of function in the
heart and lungs; and swelling of ankles. (2) Barbiturates,
clonidine, phenytoin,
rifampin, or thyroid hormones (i.e.
levothyroxine)
because they may decrease this medicines effectiveness.(3) Certain
stimulants (adrenalin, pseudoephedrine), hydralazine, insulin, lidocaine,
quinazolines (such as
doxazosin),
rizatriptan, or theophylline because their actions and the risk of their
side effects may be increased this generic prescription.
Important Notes About Usage of this
Prescription: (1) Generic
Betoptic may cause drowsiness. These
effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines.
Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how
you react to it. (2) Betaxolol Hci may mask the signs of
hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). If thyroid patients stop taking
these medicines too suddenly, symptoms of hyperthyroidism may occur.
