Common Side Effects - Include: agitation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, enlarged pupils, jitteriness, nausea, stuffy nose.

Drug Interaction: There are certain drugs that cause negative side effects when taken with Chlordiazepoxide Hydrochloride. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following: (1) Thiazide diuretics (i.e. hydrochlorothiazide) because side effects of Chlorpromazine may be increased; (2) Arsenic, astemizole, beta-blockers (propranolol), certain antiarrhythmic agents (quinidine), cisapride, dofetilide, droperidol, epinephrine, quinolone antibiotics (ciprofloxacin), haloperidol, ketolides (telithromycin), macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin), pimozide, streptogramins (quinupristin), terfenadine, or ziprasidone because side effects, such as racing heartbeat, dizziness, fainting, and life-threatening irregular heartbeat leading to unconsciousness, may be increased by this prescription; (3) Anticholinergics (i.e. atropine) because the effectiveness of the drug may be decreased; (4) Barbiturates (i.e. phenobarbital), hydantoins (i.e. phenytoin), or narcotic pain medicines (eg, codeine) because side effects may be increased by Chlorpromazine; and (5) Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), guanethidine, and pergolide because effectiveness may be decreased by Chlorpromazine.

Important Notes: (1) Chlordiazepoxide may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this drug. Using Generic Thorazine alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks. (2) Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase the risk of dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. To prevent these effects, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness. (3) This drug may cause increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Chlorpromazine. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. (4) Involuntary and uncontrollable movements may develop with use of this drug. Occurrence is highest among the elderly, especially women. The risk of developing these involuntary movements and the likelihood they will become permanent are increased with long-term use and with high doses. Contact your doctor at once if you experience involuntary movements.(5) Do not breast feed while taking this drug without consulting with your doctor.
