How Does the Drug Work? Erythromycin Base
and Stearate is a macrolide antibiotic. Macrolide antibiotics slow the
growth of, or sometimes kill, sensitive bacteria by reducing the
production of important proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.

Drug Interaction Concerns Please
notify your physician if you are taking any of the following: (1) Efavirenz or rifampin because they may decrease pills effectiveness.
(2) Arsenic, cimetidine, diltiazem, dofetilide, HIV protease inhibitors, imidazoles (such as ketoconazole), pimozide, QT-prolonging agents
(i.e. quinidine & sotalol), quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin), streptogramins (eg, quinupristin/dalfopristin), or
verapamil because side effects,
such as heart toxicity or irregular heartbeat, may occur. (3) The use of anticoagulants (warfarin), aldosterone blockers (i.e. spironolactone),
alfentanil, arsenic, astemizole, benzodiazepines (such as alprazolam),
bromocriptine, buspirone,
carbamazepine,
cilostazol, cisapride, clozapine,
corticosteroids (like generic hydrocortisone), cyclosporine, digitoxin, digoxin,
disopyramide, ergot alkaloids (eg, ergotamine), felodipine, H1
antagonists (for example diphenhydramine), HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (lovastatin), imatinib, macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus),
meglitinide anti-diabetics, midazolam, phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors, pimozide, QT-prolonging agents (such as quinidine & sotalol), quinolones,
rifampin, serotonin reuptake inhibitors (i.e.
fluoxetine), sumatriptan, theophyllines, tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline), valproic acid, or
vinca alkaloids (eg, vincristine) because the risk of their side effects may increased by using this anti-bacterial medicine.
Med Usage Notes Please read the
following information: (1) Mild diarrhea is common with antibiotic medication. However, a more serious form of diarrhea (known as pseudomembranous colitis)
may rarely occur. This may develop while you use the antibiotic or within several months after you stop using it. Contact your doctor right away if stomach
pain or cramps, severe diarrhea, or bloody stools occur. (2) Be sure to use this prescription for the full course of treatment. If you do not, the medicine
may not clear up your infection completely. (3) Long term and/or repeated use of
this pill may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a
second infection occur. (4) If you become pregnant and/or are breast feeding, please discuss with your doctor the risk/benefits of using this
antibiotic.
