The generic prescription Quinapril Hydrochloride (quin'a-pril)
is the generic equivalent medication for Accupril. It is used for the treatment of
of mild to moderate hypertension. It also can be used as for heart
failure in certain situations.
Quinapril HCL is an angiotensin converting enzyme (also known as "ACE
Inhibitors") inhibitor. ACE is involved in certain chemical reactions
that constrict the blood vessels and cause sodium and fluid
retention by the kidney. This can cause an increase in blood
pressure. An ACE inhibitors lowers high blood pressure by
interfering with angiotensin converting enzymes and causing the
blood vessels to relax (widen). Thus, allowing blood to flow more
freely and at a lower pressure. ACE drugs will also increase
the heart's ability to pump blood in some types of heart failure.
This medicine comes in tablet
form in doses 5 10 20 & 40 milligram tablets.
