What are the Common Side Effects of
Indomethacin? - They include:
constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, gas, headaches,
heartburn, nausea, and stomach upset.
Drug Interaction Concerns when taking
Generic Indocin - If you are taking any of the following drugs please let
your physician know: (1) Anticoagulants (warfarin), corticosteroids
(such as prednisone), diflunisal, heparin, other NSAIDs, aspirin, or
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (such as
fluoxetine) because the
risk of stomach bleeding may be increased. (2) Potassium-sparing
diuretics (such as spironolactone and triamterene) because the risk of
kidney problems or increased blood potassium levels may be increased. (3)
Cyclophosphamide because low blood sodium levels may occur.(4)
Probenecid because it may increase the risk of this medicine's side effects.
(5) Cyclosporine, digoxin, lithium, methotrexate, quinolones, or
sulfonylureas (glipizide for example) because the risk of their side effects
may be increased by this drug. (6) ACE inhibitors (enalapril),
angiotensin receptor blockers, beta-blockers (i.e.
propranolol), or
diuretics (such as
furosemide,
hydrochlorothiazide) because their
effectiveness may be decreased by using generic Indocin.
Important Notes About This Medication:
(1) This prescription may cause dizziness or drowsiness. These
effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines.
Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how
you react to it. (2) Serious stomach ulcers or bleeding can occur
with the use of this med. Taking it in high doses or for a long time,
smoking, or drinking alcohol increases the risk of these side effects.
Taking the pill with food will NOT reduce the risk of these effects.
Contact your doctor or emergency room at once if you develop severe
stomach or back pain, black tarry stools, vomit that looks like blood or
coffee grounds, and/or unusual weight gain or swelling. (3)
Do not take aspirin while you are taking this medicine unless your
physician tells you to. (4) This drug may harm the fetus.
Do not use it during the last 3 months of pregnancy. If you think you
may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the
benefits and risks of using Indomthacin capsules while you are pregnant.
