The generic prescription Propranolol ER is used for treatment of high blood pressure. Additionally, this drug can be used for the treatment of tremors, migraine headaches, and the treatment associated with adrenal gland tumors. This generic medicine is equivalent to Inderal LA brand medication.

How does the medication work? It is a beta-adrenergic blocking agent. It works by slowing down the heart and reducing blood pressure, which helps the heart pump more efficiently and reduces the workload. It may also interfere with the action of adrenalin and other similar chemicals in the brain preventing migraine headaches.

Common Side Effects of This Prescription - Include: constipation, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, lightheadedness, nausea, sleeplessness, stomach cramps, tiredness, vision problems, vivid dreams, vomiting, and weakness.

Drug Interaction to Avoid: There are certain drugs that cause negative side effects when taken with Generic Inderal LA drug. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following: (1) Antiarrhythmics (such as Amiodarone, Flecainide & Quinidine), antipsychotics (such as Chlorpromazine and Haloperidol), bupivacaine, calcium channel blockers (including: Mibefradil, Nifedipine & Verapamil), cimetidine, ketanserin, mefloquine, or thioamines because potentially life-threatening heart-related side effects may occur (Which can include: very slow heart rate, abnormal heartbeat, lightheadedness, difficulty breathing, loss of function in the heart and lungs, and swelling of ankles.) (2) Barbiturates, clonidine, phenytoin, rifampin, or thyroid hormones because they may decrease drug's effectiveness. (3) Certain stimulants (Adrenalin and Pseudoephedrine), hydralazine, insulin, lidocaine, quinazolines, rizatriptan, or theophylline because their actions and the risk of their side effects may be increased by this pill.

Important Notes About This Medication: (1) This medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol, exercise or certain medicines. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it. (2) Patients who take medicine for high blood pressure often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after starting treatment. Be sure to take your medicine even if you may not feel "normal." Tell your doctor if you develop any new symptoms. (3) This drug may mask the signs of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). If you have an overactive thyroid and stop taking generic prescription to suddenly, symptoms of hyperthyroidism (a fast heartbeat) may occur. (4) For diabetics, this prescription medication may hide signs of low blood sugar. Be sure to watch for other signs of low blood sugar. Low blood sugar may make you anxious, sweaty, weak, dizzy, drowsy, or faint. It may also make your vision change; give you a headache, chills, or tremors; or make you more hungry. Check blood sugar levels closely. (5) Do not breast feed while taking this rx drug without consulting with your doctor.
